Complex I inhibition after intra-articular fracture prevents rapid progression of osteoarthritis in a porcine model

A 2017 ORS Annual Meeting study demonstrated that early inhibition of mitochondrial complex I after intra-articular fracture significantly slows the rapid progression of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in a porcine model. Both amobarbital and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) reduced oxidative stress, preserved cartilage thickness, and improved histological scores six months after injury.
